Description
First Kodama Work (Previous Generation Work) Kote | Kote | Machine-Stitched | Kendo | Protective Gear

Made by Kodama in Itabashi, Tokyo. These kote were made by the previous generation around the 1980s.

They show little signs of use, with a deep indigo color remaining. The inner lining is also largely free of dirt, and considering their age, they are in very good condition.

While new kote made by the second generation are, of course, still available for purchase, good condition kote from the First generation are becoming quite rare these days and can be considered a treasure.

They are lightweight yet have ample padding and long布団 (futon - the padded part of the kote), giving them a substantial feel. Compared to modern gear, they possess a strong budo (martial arts) atmosphere.

The rounded form with a small head is characteristic of traditional Tokyo-style kote.
Unlike recent kote, there is little play inside, and they are designed to fit snugly against the palm. However, older gear was designed to be worn slightly tighter and fitted deeply, allowing for a more direct feel during use.

With a裏別珍 (ura bechin - velvet lining), 二段ナマコ (nidan namako - two-tiered sea cucumber pattern reinforcement), and 剣型擬宝珠飾り (ken-gata giboshi kazari - sword-shaped decorative finial), this kote is equipped with all the specifications of the highest grade Miyashita Godo-style gear. It has not been heavily used yet, and with some breaking in through kneading and tapping, it will conform even better to the shape of your hand, becoming a unique partner.

I personally prefer slightly smaller kote, but for those who need a larger size, these will be perfect. This is a gem that should be picked up by those who are confident in their skills.

For hands that are slightly large, with a maximum opening width of 21 cm between the thumb and pinky, 19 cm from the tip of the middle finger to the wrist, and a circumference of approximately 21 cm around the back of the hand excluding the thumb. The longest part of the elbow布団 (futon) is 15 cm.

In recent years, kote with pre-angled wrists have become available, but most of these have an unnatural structure and are prone to breakage. With these kote, even if the palm lining needs replacement, the rest of the structure is unlikely to break.

These have been stored for a long time and show no deterioration. However, we prioritize the current condition of the item and request no claims or returns. Please understand that the shipping date may vary depending on the timing of the auction.

For those looking for good condition traditional kote, don't miss this opportunity!
