Mushakoji Sanetomi I Will Live My Life Printed Shikishi Board
Reproduction Print, Kogeiga, Otsuka Kogeisha
Around the mid-Taisho era, Minoru Otsuka, the founder of Otsuka Kogeisha, initiated Kogeiga (art reproduction prints) by utilizing photo-engraving and printing technology, as advocated by the painter Yokoyama Taikan.
Its characteristic is that it uses materials and mediums equivalent to the original artwork, prints using photo-engraving, and then professional artists meticulously finish each piece by hand-coloring with pigments and ink, resulting in a reproduction that is close to the original.
