Description
What a fascinating piece of history! This carved stone vessel takes the form of a gong, an archaic Chinese ritual wine-pouring vessel shape traditionally cast in bronze during the Shang and Zhou dynasties. A dragon head forms the spout, while a small crouching beast tops the lid. Incised script covers the body throughout. This piece was represented by the selling auction house as a Han dynasty reproduction. There is a crack in this — please review the photos for full details and measurements. A striking conversation piece for any collector of Asian antiques!
