This is a natsume (tea caddy) crafted using the authentic lacquerware technique Tsuishu (carved lacquer).
I am offering it to someone who will cherish it, as I am downsizing my collection.

• Intricate Carving: Peonies, symbols of wealth and known as the King of a Hundred Flowers, are luxuriously carved from the lid to the sides.

• Tsuishu Technique: This is a highly labor-intensive traditional craft where patterns are created by carving into layers of red lacquer applied repeatedly.

• Texture: The depth of the carving and the moist texture characteristic of lacquer suggest this is an authentic Tsuishu (lacquerware) piece. The raised and lowered surfaces from the carving fit comfortably in the hand. The interior is finished with a beautiful black lacquer, creating a design that makes the green of matcha stand out exceptionally well.
