Vintage Federal Green Uranium Depression Sherbet/Dessert Glass‎

This footed sherbet dish was produced by the Federal Glass Company during the Depression era, roughly between 1930 and 1940. Federal Glass was one of the major American glassware manufacturers of the period, producing affordable tableware that brightened homes during economically challenging times. The distinctive green color comes from uranium oxide added to the glass, which gives it a characteristic glow under ultraviolet light—a popular novelty feature of the era. Depression glass sherbet dishes hold significant appeal for collectors of vintage glassware and Americana enthusiasts. The uranium glass variety is particularly prized by specialized collectors who appreciate both the historical manufacturing techniques and the unique fluorescent properties of these pieces. These items represent an accessible entry point into Depression glass collecting while offering the added intrigue of their glowing characteristic, making them conversation pieces that blend practical history with scientific curiosity. Collectors of 1930s–1940s kitchenware and those interested in mid-century American domestic life find these pieces especially charming for their combination of utilitarian design and period aesthetics.
