Description
A piece of Upper West Side history you can hold in your hand. This set of 6 antique silverplate pieces — 5 spoons and 1 serving knife — is engraved Marbury Hall, the name of a grand Beaux-Arts residence hotel built in 1901-1902 at 164 West 74th Street in Manhattan. Designed by noted architects Buchman & Fox, Marbury Hall was once called the most sumptuously appointed establishment in this city. The landmarked building still stands today, beautifully restored and now known as The Marbury. Made by Meriden Britannia Co. (marked XII for quadruple silverplate), these pieces would have graced the hotel's dining room over a century ago. Details: • 5 silverplate spoons, ornate scroll/rococo handles • 1 flat serving knife, matching pattern • Engraved Marbury Hall in elegant period script • Backstamped Meriden Britannia Co. • Genuine antique patina — see photos for condition A wonderful find for collectors of hotel silver, NYC history lovers, or anyone drawn to authentic pieces of the city's past.
